The lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he says he will seek re-election.
The announcement was made on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday by the Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who read El-Rufai’s resignation letter during plenary.
In a statement following the development, El-Rufai confirmed his defection, noting that he is now a member of the ADC and will continue his legislative ambition under the new platform.
He was accompanied in the move by other lawmakers, including Hon. Engr. Suleiman Richifa (Soba) and Hon. Umar Ajilo (Makarfi/Kudan), who also left their previous parties for the ADC.
Describing the decision as deliberate and value-driven, El-Rufai said the new political alignment was aimed at strengthening “people-focused service” and building a
platform that better serves constituents.
“As a proud son of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, I am guided by courage, conviction, and the belief that our people deserve the very best,” he said, assuring his constituents in Kaduna North that his legislative work would continue without interruption.
He also disclosed plans to expand his constituency projects, including a primary healthcare initiative expected to begin implementation soon. According to him, the programme will equip primary health centres with essential medical supplies, starting with 1,000 syringes per centre in selected wards such as Unguwar Sarki and Badarawa/Malali.
El-Rufai expressed optimism about the new political journey, saying it was aimed at delivering stronger representation and improved grassroots development for his constituents.
