The Rivers State Government has charged media houses in the state to intensify enlightenment campaigns, so as to educate the people on the dreaded COVID-19.
The state commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paulinus Nsirim made the appeal during a meeting with media executives across the state, yesterday.
Nsirim said the need for the message to be spread daily is to create the necessary awareness, as the second wave has been reported to be spiking across the globe.
He said the importance of such public enlightenment programs, is to educate and inform residents on the need to take preventive measures to protect themselves from the virus.
“Coronavirus is spiking in Rivers State and I strongly believe that media executives can utilize their various platforms to intensify public enlightenment in this direction,” he said.
He urged residents to obey all guidelines on COVID-19, as ‘It is better to breathe with a face mask than to breathe with a ventilator, ” he stated.
Safety First and Safety always, this is a good one and should be treated with all seriousness, for the sake of our families and loved ones, let’s try to abide by the rules of Covid19 Safety measures.
The enlightenment process sure is the work of the media but we as citizens also have our role to play and that is obeying laid down rules or rather protocols set by the NCDC in other to be safe. I pray we all get out of this in no time
This is why the Mass media exists, for things like this. A lot of people especially in Nigeria do not take these covid 19 awareness seriously, as they should but for what the Rivers State government is about to do with the help of the Mass media is truly one big step to the fight of the second wave of this deadly virus.
So therefore, we all should also adhere to these Covid 19 guidelines.
No matter how uncomfortable and bad it may seem, it’s for the saving of lives and for the betterment of the nation.
Everyone should stay safe, and always put on face mask
I think the media house has an important role to play in the sensitisation exercise…….and in our own little ways as communicators lets try to create this awarenes around us…..and also adhere to the laid down rules ourselves.
It is the responsibility of the media to enlighten the public about the deadly covid-19 but citizens have to take responsibility by observing social distancing and other safety measures to curtail the spread of the virus. It is better to breathe with a nose mask than breathing with a ventilator.
The media houses in the State are doing a good job by creating awareness for people to know about covid 19 and giving more insights
About the danger’s of adhering to the covid 19 protocols
Of not adhering to the covid 19 protocols
Creating awareness of this deadly second wave of the covid 19 is something only the media houses can do effectively as they serve as the eyes and ears of the general public
I believe if more effort is made on their part the majority will adhere to the preventive measures and protect themselves against the virus
It is the responsibility of the media to enlighten the audience about the deadly covid-19, but it could be said that there are many doubting Thomas who can actually see but don’t believe. May GOD help us.
The media serves as d eyes and ears of our country thereby being in charge of researching and informing d audiences on wats happening in our country so far…the citizens also have to do their own part of d bargain by adhering to rules…
The media is really trying to assist d government, but most people don’t believe dat coronavirus truly exist, and this makes it hard 4 d media and also the government
The media is the eyes and the ears of the people and we get every information from there.. so once the media talks more about COVID19 and it’s dangers.. the people will be more enlightened and informed about it
In as much as the media has a vital role to play in enlightenment of the public concerning the spread of the virus…the government and we the individuals has a major role to technically stop its spread……not necessarily the media that will stop its spread through enlightenment
It’s nice that the masses are being enlightened about how dangerous covid-19 can be
Well this is when the media houses in River State, starts their surveillance, information and education function,so as to help spread the news faster, and to also help fight this pandemic..
The media has alot to do in order to curtail the spread of the virus
I think this is the right time for the various media houses to unvail their surveillance and educative functions,so as to educate the masses on the disease.
Well, this is just an urge to the media to buckle up on their surveillance function. They are the ears and eyes through which the audience knows about the turns the world’s taking.
We can’t be kept in the dark. We’ve got the media.
Its the duty of mass media to act as watch dog of the society
With this progress I would say the media is trying so hard to keep people safe from the deadly diseases
It is the duty of the mass media to act as a watch dog of the society
BT with dis progress i would say the mass is trying soo hard to keep everyone safe
Its a welcome innovation where a lot can be sensitized. As the media continually create awareness, it will become path of everyone.
Hon. Paulinus Nsirim is absolutely right, it is the media’s duty to serve as the watchdogs (the eyes and ears) of the society and highlight for the society what is important. The media should do more in spreading awareness towards the second wave of this deadly virus.
This is a good idea and I totally agree with the enlightenment Champaign, cause most people do not believe that Covid 19 truly exit in Nigeria.
I think it’s a good idea…..it’s important that people know that covid 19 is real and deadly
With the second wave in place no one can tell how much the casualties will be this time. The media has the power to provoke cooperation from the people. The minister was right to call them out. Spread awareness!
I hope we all stay safe
A welcome idea from the Rivers state commissioner Hon paulinus Nsirim. Hence society depends on the media for information through its various platforms, this makes it the responsibility of the media to educate n enlighten people of the dangers of covid19 and measurements to prevent the spread.
I totally agree with the enlightenment champaign and at same time the government has to prove to its subject and this thing covid 19 truly exists here in Nigeria.
Thank you Honourable Commissioner. I observed at the moment, the Media are a bit relaxed when compared to what we saw on television and heard on radio during the first wave of Covid 19. I trust the Media would wake up better to their educational responsibility here and now to enlighten the citizens on the danger posed by this second wave of Covid 19. With the Media, the society would better informed on the danger of not keeping to Covid 19 guidelines.
Punchline from the Honourable Commissioner’s briefing. “Better to breathe through the mask than Ventilator” I want to deductively say none of us has something to loose by simple obedience to the Covid 19 guidelines and you have nothing to gain by disobedient to the guideline let us choose then to obey and enjoy the divideds obedience than to disobey and gain nothing.
It is the duty of the mass media to be the eyes and ear to the it’s audience. The mass media inform its audience on the happenings around their environments and how they can prevent themselves from it.
Punch line_ ” Better to breath with a face mask than a ventilator”.Thank you Honourable Commissioner. This is a call for obedience, when you obey you have nothing to loose. But when you disobey you have something to loose. Better to obey to have nothing to loose than being disobedient and loose. Let us be disciplined and keep to every safety guides met to protect us from this deadly virus. Use your face shield, wash your hands regularly, observe social distancing and remind the next person to do same.
The Media is a medium to reach both the government n the people, at this time of the pandemic it is easier to spread the information to the people through media platforms and the government is taking advantage of that already, that’s the function of surveillance.
If the media houses continue to spread the happens of the COVID-19 and it’s effects the people will be more careful n adhere to the warning of the government in so doing the media have achieved their

I think this is a very good idea, most people do not believe that this disease is actually in Nigeria, so basically what they need is enlightenment
The media has done all it can in enlightening the public about the dreaded monster called Corona virus, every Tom, Dick and Harry is now aware of it. Now the problem is that many don’t believe that the virus truly is here with us, even some of our religious leaders are the ones championing that course. They’ll say that as long as you have Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour the virus will not come near you, or they’ll say it’s the sickness for the elite and political class and so on. I believe that the Government also has a role to play in order to make the public to believe that the virus is here, if the Government could give the media access to information and data of the victims of the virus and also Government should show seriousness in the fight against the virus rather than trying to politicize it.
The Media are the eye and mouth of the society the information they give is what the people will take,if they make sounds serious the society will take precautions
The media is saddled with the responsibility of informing the public and so far information is really spreading about the Corona virus but people need more proof about it’s existence in this part of the world to compel them to obey the rules concerning the Corona virus to protect against and or spreading the virus.
Wash your hands regularly under running water with soap or Use a hand sanitizer in absence of water
Use a face or nose mask
Avoid crowded places and maintain the social distancing
To be Frankly speaking, obedient is better than sacrifice.and a stitch in Time saves nine, its quite obvious that most of the River’s elements find it more difficult to believe the truth behind the scenes, taking refuge in fake faith of “seeing is believing”. I really appreciate Mr governor’s effort towards the protection of the lives and properties of his people, not considering our nonchalant and carefree attitudes, towards the needful. The media with it’s marvelous efforts, serves as the vein through which blood travels round the body, this has been proven by the definition of mass communication/ mass media.thank you very much my honorable Paulinus Nsirim , for the time you’ve invested to intestify to the people of Rivers State against the wild virus (covid19) may the Almighty God bless you richly in Jesus name! He who has ears, let him hear.
The media is saddled with the responsibility of informing the mass audience and so far information is really spreading about the corona virus but, people also need more proof of it’s existence in this part of the world to really compel them to obey the instructions about preventing and or spreading the virus.
Some citizens think the virus doesn’t exist, that’s why they feel reluctant in following and adhering to covid19 preventive measures.
That’s why is best and very necessary for the public to be informed and be aware of the current situation we are in through the media, for everyone to stay safe.
Well it a good thing for the government to work with the media… And stating the obvious reasons why we need to adhere to the rules n guidance in preventing this Corona virus… It’s the duty of the mass media to inform the public about what’s happening n the next step to take and I know the media is at their Best… So it left for the public to adhere to it in other to prevent it..
It’s our duty as residents of Rivers State to obey the Covid-19 guidelines. The media has a part to play and so do we. Let’s protect the African race!✊✊????????
The problem is the people need solid proof to accept that the virus is real..if only the media can put more effort to get to the people.. convince them well..I think people will listen and adhere to precautions
Prevention is better than cure, Iets fellow the covid 19 guidelines and be safe
The media is saddled with the responsibility to inform and educate the mass audience..even though the media is trying its best to educate people about the covid 19 and also providing guide lines on how people can prevent such but the people are not taking it serious..but I believe if the media should put more effort.. provide more convincing proof I believe people will listen and take precautions.
The media are trying to enlighten the public about this virus, but some people are still thinking the government just want to hide under the name “Corona virus” to steal our money ???? We really need to help the government and also help ourselves by telling them the real truth Stay safe✊

I think the mass media are playing a very vital role in saving the lives of Nigerians by telling us about what is happening around us and the necessary precautions to take in order not to be victims of circumstance. Please, let us cooperate by taking precautions, and kudos to the media.
This virus is really affecting lots of things around the world. Please let’s try and adhere to the preventive majors. So that the pandemic wouldn’t grow Worst!!!!
The media is trying as much as possible to educate the people of the State about the virus.. especially on prevention measures but the Truth is most people still don’t take it seriously they still think of the virus in the state as a lie okoroma Kelvin
I feel it’s best for the public to listen to their leaders, cause it’s necessary for everyone to be healthy
I think it’s a very good move and very necessary so the public can be aware of the current situation we are in
This pandemic is getting worse????
Please friends let’s try to stay safe by adhering to the covid 19 guidelines.wash your hands regularly, use sanitizers, wear your nose mask and stay safe????
Health is wealth ….let try nd keep to rules nd
Regulations of covid 19 it will help us all , just like what commissioner said
