The Rivers State Government says it will deploy about 5,000 teachers to public schools across the state in the coming weeks to strengthen teaching and learning.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, disclosed this while inspecting some schools to assess compliance with the government’s directive on the resumption of the new academic session.
Nwagor said the deployment is part of measures to improve the quality of education and ensure adequate manpower in public schools.
He also announced plans to revamp school facilities across the state, saying the upgrade is aimed at creating a better learning environment for students.
The Commissioner urged students who have resumed to encourage their colleagues to return to school, while appealing to members of the public to report cases of children who remain at home despite the commencement of academic activities.
He assured that teachers were fully prepared to receive students and urged parents to ensure that no child stays away from school.
Nwagor, accompanied by other education officials, visited State Primary School, Olanada, and Community Secondary School, Rumuepirikom during the inspection.
