The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 10 suspected vandals in separate operations across Abuja.
The suspects were arrested in Kubwa, Wuye and around the National Mosque, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.
The command said five suspects were arrested around Bazango-Kubwa on September 2 while allegedly vandalising armoured cables.
They were identified as Goodname Oriarebun, 29; Timothy Donald, 28; Ayo Buli, 26; Emmanuel Elijah, 28; and Christian David, 28.
In another operation, police arrested Moses Luka while allegedly digging out armoured cables along the road between Magic Land and the National Stadium.
Four others — Musa Abdullahi, Suleiman Idris, Aliyu Isa and Muhammed Abdulrahman — were also arrested around the National Mosque after allegedly cutting down a solar-powered streetlight to remove its components.
The police said investigations were ongoing to arrest other members of the suspected vandalism syndicates and those allegedly receiving stolen public infrastructure.
The command said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, commended the officers for their vigilance and timely intervention in protecting public infrastructure.
