The residence of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in Maitama, Abuja, reportedly became a major political gathering point as thousands of youths and political support groups converged on the area, urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.
According to reports, more than 1,000 groups participated in the visit, calling on the former president to return to active politics and provide what they described as experienced and mature leadership for the country.
The groups said Nigeria needs a leader who understands governance and power “without desperation,” insisting that Jonathan remains a credible figure capable of uniting the nation.
The supporters also reportedly demanded a clear position from the former president regarding the 2027 race, saying they did not want to leave with uncertainty over his political intentions.
Responding to the crowd, Jonathan commended the youths for what he described as their patriotism and commitment to national development.
He stated that he would consult widely before making any decision on the matter.
According to him, if the consultations indicate the need for him to contest, he would consider joining the 2027 presidential race.
