Popular Rivers State journalist, Allwell Ene, has stated that the 13 suspects arrested by the Rivers State Police Command in connection with his assault were not the individuals who attacked him.
The police had earlier announced the arrest of 13 suspects allegedly linked to the assault and harassment of the Classic FM journalist, on World Press Freedom Day. Ene is the third journalist in Rivers State to recently experience media-related harassment.
However, after an identification exercise held at the police station, Ene insisted that none of the suspects presented were involved in the attack.
He expressed disappointment over the slow pace of the investigation and possible arrest.
Meanwhile, civil society organisations, media groups, journalists, and concerned citizens have continued to urge the police authorities to intensify efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute those truly responsible for the assault.
