General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticisms over the country’s security challenges, saying the President has carried out his constitutional responsibility by issuing directives to the military.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., on June 23, Adeboye said it was unfair to blame Tinubu for not doing enough to tackle insecurity.
According to the cleric, once a commander-in-chief gives orders to the armed forces, he has fulfilled his role and should not be expected to personally participate in military operations.
Adeboye compared Tinubu’s role to that of world leaders, citing U.S. President Donald Trump as an example. He said leaders issue commands from their offices while the military carries out the operations.
“You don’t expect the President to wear military uniform and go to the battlefield himself. Once he has given the necessary instructions, he has done his part,” Adeboye said.
He urged critics to recognise the responsibilities of the military and security agencies in executing the President’s directives rather than placing the entire blame on the commander-in-chief.
