Suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on Monday attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a teacher and abducting an unspecified number of students who were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the school at about 9 a.m., firing sporadically into the air and throwing the school community into panic. During the attack, a teacher was killed, while several NECO candidates were taken away to an unknown destination.
The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident, saying security agencies were still assessing the situation.
“At about 9 a.m., an unspecified number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school and shot sporadically into the air. During the attack, an unspecified number of students were abducted, while some are still missing,” Daso said.
The latest attack comes 47 days after terrorists abducted 42 pupils, including children as young as two years old, from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira/Uba Local Government Area on May 15, 2026. The victims of that abduction have yet to regain their freedom.
