Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has expressed concern that he could face political repercussions if President Bola Tinubu is defeated in the 2027 presidential election by either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi.
Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has remained a strong supporter of Tinubu despite the President being his party’s political rival.
Speaking during a media chat, the former Rivers State governor said he was conscious of the possible consequences of his decision to back Tinubu, stressing that he could be among the first politicians targeted if the President loses the election.
He said he was prepared to face whatever consequences might arise from his political choice, adding that his support for Tinubu’s re-election had remained unwavering.
Wike explained that Tinubu’s 2027 re-election was now a major focus of his daily activities, saying his thoughts and efforts were centred on ensuring the President secures another term in office.
The FCT Minister also lamented the level of criticism he has received over his political stance, saying few politicians had been subjected to the kind of name-calling and attacks directed at him.
Despite the criticism, Wike said he remained unperturbed by his opponents’ opinions and would continue to support Tinubu, insisting that his political decision was deliberate and firmly held.
