The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not seek to remain in office beyond the 2027 general election, arguing that the President has become exhausted.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Obi maintained that he is not driven by personal ambition to occupy the presidency but is focused on seeing Nigeria work effectively.
The former Anambra State governor also faulted the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy and security, alleging that poverty and insecurity have worsened under the current government. He further claimed that some previously successful business owners have been forced into selling kuli-kuli to survive.
“Tinubu is tired and needs to go home and rest. When Tinubu came into power 87 million Nigerians were in poverty but today it’s 140 million. “Insecurity has gotten worse. Which hope are they going to renew again? You can’t renew failure,” he said.
“I am not desperate to be President of Nigeria. There’s a way you will fail in school; they will ask you to leave the school,” Obi added
