Concerned stakeholders, parents and students of Community Secondary School Lueku in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State have appealed to the state government to urgently intervene following severe flooding that has rendered the school inaccessible.

In an open letter dated September 7, 2026, addressed to the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, the stakeholders said the flood had submerged classrooms, turned the school compound into a waterway and destroyed learning materials.

They said the situation prevented students from resuming for the new term, leaving hundreds of pupils in Lueku and neighbouring communities stranded at home.

The stakeholders described the development as a threat to the education and future of the affected students, stressing that the crisis goes beyond the condition of the school buildings.

They urged the Rivers State Government to provide immediate relief materials and temporary learning arrangements for the affected students.

They also called for urgent renovation of the school and the implementation of effective flood-control measures to make the facility safe and habitable.

The stakeholders further appealed for the replacement of learning materials destroyed by the flood.

The appeal was signed electronically by Konee Stanley Barinaadaa on behalf of parents, students and community leaders of Community Secondary School Lueku.

The stakeholders urged the state government to treat the matter with urgency, saying, “We cannot watch our children’s future wash away.”
