President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting the membership of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), with key changes in the finance and housing portfolios.
This was disclosed in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, indicating that two cabinet members—Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa—will exit the cabinet.
Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the position. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.
In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State pending further confirmation.
The memo directed that all handing-over processes be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Akume explained that the reshuffle is part of efforts to strengthen cohesion and improve governance delivery, particularly in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
President Tinubu also commended the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet will remain ongoing.
