The Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt II Area Command, Onne, has intercepted 17 containers loaded with contraband and falsely declared goods with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over ₦2.06 billion.
Area Controller, Aliyu Alkali, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command headquarters in Onne, Rivers State, where he also announced a historic revenue performance by the Command.
According to Alkali, the Command generated ₦258,204,841,355.66 between January and April 2026, while over ₦77.3 billion was collected in April alone — the highest monthly revenue recorded since the establishment of the Onne Command.
He attributed the achievement to the Command’s commitment to revenue generation, trade facilitation, and strict enforcement of government fiscal policies.
Speaking on anti-smuggling operations, Alkali said officers intercepted a 40-foot container in February 2026 that was falsely declared as plumbing materials. He explained that investigations revealed that the actual container number had been concealed and replaced with a fake number in a bid to illegally exit the port without payment of customs duty.
The seized container had a DPV of ₦185.2 million.
The Customs boss further revealed that nine additional 40-foot containers carrying bales of fabrics, carpentry and building tools, LED lights, solar fans, and garments were also intercepted, with a combined DPV of ₦1.25 billion.
Also intercepted was a 40-foot container concealing unregistered pharmaceutical products, including about 600 cartons of Hyergra, hidden among cartons of chilly cutters, ceiling fans, and food packs.
“The Duty Paid Value of the seized drugs and other items is estimated at ₦139.3 million,” he said.
