FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed opposition from APC governors to his proposed “Rainbow Coalition,” describing them as “smart but politically lazy.”
The APC Governors’ Forum had, after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Monday, September 14, rejected any political arrangement that could undermine the chances of APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The coalition, championed by Wike, brings together members of the PDP and APC in Rivers State, with the stated aim of working together ahead of the 2027 general election.
Reacting during an interview with Arise TV on Monday evening, Wike said the governors were being politically calculating but lacked the political strength to challenge his position.
He specifically questioned the political standing of Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, arguing that Uzodinma, despite being a sitting governor, could not deliver Imo State to President Bola Tinubu and the APC during the 2023 presidential election.
Wike also alleged that the APC governors only began opposing him after President Tinubu appointed him as a minister.
