The Ochie of Etche, His Eminence E.M.B. Opurum, the oldest monarch in Rivers State, has died, prompting the Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Chief Chima Boniface Njoku, to mourn his passing.
Njoku, in a condolence message to the Opurum family and the people of Etche, described the late monarch as a great patriot, elder statesman and repository of knowledge whose contributions to the development and history of Etche and Rivers State would remain indelible.
The council chairman said Opurum was among the founding fathers of the old Rivers State, adding that his death was a great loss to Etche and the entire state.
He noted that the late monarch dedicated his life to serving his people and would be greatly missed for his wisdom, experience and deep knowledge of the history of Rivers State.
Njoku prayed to Almighty God to grant the Opurum family and the people of Etche and Rivers State the fortitude to bear the loss, urging them to take solace in the enduring legacy of the late monarch.
