The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its 2026 party primaries will be conducted manually due to limited time, while assuring members that future exercises will fully adopt an electronic system.
National leader of the party, Seriake Dickson disclosed this after a marathon deliberation involving its National Working Committee, Selection Committee, presidential aspirant , and other senior officials.
According to him, the manual process became necessary because there was insufficient time to fully implement the electronic system originally designed for the primaries and congresses.
“As I said at the dinner with aspirants, this will be the last primary election in the NDC to be conducted manually,” the statement said.
The party acknowledged that the manual system may not be perfect due to logistical and time constraints, but insisted that its intentions remained sincere and aimed at building a transparent and enduring political institution.
The NDC explained that State Assembly primaries would be conducted through direct primaries at the constituency level, while House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and presidential affirmations would take place at various Local Government headquarters.
Final results, according to the party, will be announced at the National Secretariat by the Selection Committee and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The party also encouraged consensus arrangements where necessary and urged aspirants, stakeholders, and interest groups to support efforts aimed at ensuring peaceful and credible primaries.
It further directed party officials to work closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies throughout the exercise.
The statement added that the NDC was committed to building “an enduring modern political institution” that would outlive individual political interests.
