Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku was declared winner by the party’s Presidential Primary Electoral Committee in Abuja after a two-day collation exercise.
However, the outcome of the primary was rejected by two of his challengers, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The returning officer for the primary, Tunde Ogbeha, announced the final results late Wednesday following the conclusion of the collation process.
According to the figures released, Atiku secured 1,846,370 votes to defeat his closest opponents. Amaechi garnered 504,117 votes, while Hayatu-Deen polled 177,120 votes.
The victory officially positions Atiku as the ADC flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election after weeks of political consultations and realignments within the opposition coalition.
