A young woman identified as Lilian has drowned following a boat mishap in the Isiodumu River in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, September 5, 2026, when Lilian and some others went to fetch firewood.
According to ConnectAndoni the group was returning home when their boat reportedly capsized opposite the Egendem Cemetery.
While some of the occupants were said to have swum to safety, Lilian, who reportedly could not swim, drowned in the process.
Her body was recovered from the Isiodumu River on the morning of Monday, September 7, two days after the incident.
The incident has left her family, friends and members of the community mourning the loss.
Relevant authorities were yet to react to the incident as of press time.
