The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening its internal structures, enforcing party discipline, and promoting accountability as part of efforts to institutionalise the party.
In a statement issued after its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the party reaffirmed its commitment to party supremacy, stressing that all governments elected on its platform must consult party structures on policies, programmes, and appointments, except for personal staff appointments.
The party said members are expected to align their personal interests with those of the NDC, emphasizing that the party remains the highest authority within its ranks.
As part of the resolutions, the NDC directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations operating within the party framework must function under the guidance and control of the party and not independently of its established structures.
The NEC also approved the development of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. A committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been established to draft the framework and guidelines.
In addition, the party inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee tasked with addressing grievances and reconciling aggrieved members across the country.
The NDC further declared that it is being built as a lasting institution rather than a personality-driven platform, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). It urged members to remain committed to the party’s growth and sustainability while placing loyalty to the party and national interest above personal ambitions.
On financial management, the party pledged to enforce strict accountability in the handling of party resources. It stated that party funds must be used solely for official party business, while candidates seeking elective offices would be required to fully disclose all campaign-related funding to the party at the local government, state, zonal, and national levels.
According to the party, all campaign funds, including contributions made by candidates, must be channelled through designated party campaign accounts, including presidential and governorship campaign accounts where applicable.
