Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized that sustainable development can only be realized through the proper enforcement of laws, sound policies, and good governance.
Speaking through his deputy, Ngozi Odu, at the opening of the 2026 Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Law and Development Summit in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the governor urged stakeholders to establish effective mechanisms for monitoring and implementing resolutions reached at the summit.
Fubara reiterated the Rivers State Government’s dedication to programmes that advance justice, development, and the welfare of people in the Niger Delta. He also praised the Niger Delta Development Commission for reviving the summit after an 18-year hiatus, describing the theme, “The Role of Law in Driving Sustainable Development in the Niger Delta,” as both relevant and timely.
According to him, the law should serve as a tool for promoting justice, equity, prosperity, peace, and inclusive development across the region.
Delivering the keynote address, Henry Odein Ajumogobia underscored the importance of legal frameworks in advancing sustainable development, environmental protection, and social justice. He observed that although the Niger Delta remains a major contributor to Nigeria’s economy, it continues to grapple with environmental challenges and underdevelopment.
