The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked reports alleging that students were kidnapped at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, on Thursday, June 4.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, officers attached to the Nyanya Division received a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. reporting an ongoing kidnapping incident at the school. In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately deployed personnel and surveillance teams to the scene.
Adeh explained that preliminary findings showed that some students suddenly began shouting “kidnappers” and ran out of the school premises, causing panic among teachers and residents of the area. The situation prompted security operatives to cordon off the school and conduct a comprehensive search.
She stated that after extensive investigations, including questioning individuals within and around the school, no evidence of any kidnapping was found. No suspect was identified and no victim was reported.
The police spokesperson added that officers also searched surrounding hills, boundaries, and adjoining areas, while nearby schools were visited as part of precautionary security measures.
Adeh urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear and tension within communities.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, also encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
