The Rivers State House of Assembly has threatened to issue warrants of arrest against the Vice Chancellor of PAMO University of Medical Sciences, the Rivers State Accountant General and the Commissioner for Finance over their failure to appear before an ad-hoc committee investigating funds disbursed to the institution from 2017 to date.
The Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, was present at the sitting.
The ad-hoc committee, constituted by the Assembly to investigate the disbursement and utilisation of funds to PAMO University, held its sitting on Wednesday following a summons issued earlier.
The summons directed the Vice Chancellor of PAMO University, the Accountant General of Rivers State, the Commissioner for Finance, the Commissioner for Education and other relevant officials and agencies to appear before the committee.
However, the Vice Chancellor, the Commissioner for Finance and the Accountant General were absent from Wednesday’s sitting.
Expressing disappointment over their failure to attend, the Chairman of the ad-hoc committee and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, directed the affected officials to appear before the committee in person on Thursday, September 24.
Maol warned that failure to honour the fresh invitation would compel the committee to invoke its constitutional powers, including the possibility of issuing warrants of arrest.
