The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria has expressed concern that declining donor funding could undermine the progress made in combating HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis across the country.
Speaking after a visit to the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Alfred Emberga, in Makurdi on Wednesday, AHF’s Senior Advocacy and Marketing Manager, Steve Aborisade, noted that Nigeria has achieved notable successes in reducing HIV prevalence and curbing mother-to-child transmission of the virus.
However, he warned that maintaining and expanding these gains will depend on increased financial support from government institutions and local stakeholders as external donor contributions continue to shrink.
Aborisade stressed the need for stronger domestic investment to ensure the sustainability of HIV and TB intervention programmes nationwide.
