Nigerian singer Palisico Ogunka, popularly known as Sky B, has opened up about the circumstances that led to the decline of his once-thriving music career.
Speaking on the KaaTruths podcast, the artiste recounted how his decision to introduce fellow musician Duncan Mighty to his former record label ultimately backfired and contributed to his exit from the spotlight.
According to Sky B, he was already enjoying success and touring Europe when he brought Duncan Mighty to the label. However, issues reportedly arose after Duncan joined the company, prompting the label owner to accuse Sky B of bringing the wrong artiste. He said the label boss had wanted Timaya instead and eventually asked both musicians to leave.
Sky B explained that the record executive had invested heavily in his projects, including the remix and video shoot for his hit song “Ma Bebe” in Switzerland. Following the fallout, the sponsor allegedly withheld the projects, dealing a major blow to his career.
Reflecting on the episode, Sky B described bringing Duncan Mighty to the label as the biggest mistake of his career. He revealed that when the company requested his second album, “Pray For Me,” he encouraged them to focus on Duncan Mighty’s project first because of their close relationship.
He said he believed the label would return to his own album after completing Duncan’s, but that never happened, leading to his gradual disappearance from the music scene.
The singer added that he had hoped to build a collaborative music movement similar to the defunct Mo’ Hits Records. However, the disappointment and frustration that followed reportedly pushed him into heavy cannabis use, which he said affected his creativity and ability to write songs.
Sky B also recalled a period when false reports circulated that he had died, further highlighting the difficult phase he endured after leaving the limelight.
