The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that bandits are planning attacks on schools in the state, assuring residents that there is no credible intelligence suggesting any imminent security threat.
The clarification followed reports that a warning notice was allegedly pasted on a school wall, claiming that bandits intended to target some schools in Lagos.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, urged parents, school administrators, guardians, and residents to remain calm, stressing that the command treats all security concerns seriously but has found no verified threat at this time.
Fatai disclosed that he had ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the implementation of enhanced security measures in the affected area and other key locations across the state.
According to him, police officers, working alongside other security agencies, have been strategically deployed to safeguard schools, critical infrastructure, and communities.
He reaffirmed that Lagos remains secure and warned that the command would not tolerate any attempt by criminals, including kidnappers, bandits, or other miscreants, to disrupt public peace or create fear among residents.
The police commissioner further stated that anyone found engaging in activities capable of causing panic or insecurity would face the full weight of the law.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasising that effective policing relies on cooperation between the public and law enforcement authorities.
