Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says the decision by the Nigerian Army to host the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Port Harcourt has helped dispel negative narratives and what he described as sponsored campaigns against Rivers State and his administration.
The governor made the remarks on Monday at the grand finale of the week-long celebration held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, formerly known as the Liberation Stadium, in Port Harcourt.
Fubara commended the Nigerian Army for its strides in personnel development, training and the deployment of modern technology to boost operational efficiency. He also lauded President Bola Tinubu for providing the support and resources that have strengthened the Army’s capacity to discharge its responsibilities effectively.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, the governor pledged continued collaboration with the Nigerian Army in maintaining peace and stability across Rivers State.
He also called for improved welfare packages for officers and soldiers, stressing that better welfare would boost morale and enhance service delivery.
The event attracted top military officials, including Nigeria’s Service Chiefs, Chiefs of Army Staff from 16 African countries, former Heads of State Yakubu Gowon and Olusegun Obasanjo, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
