The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has alleged that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, threatened to leave the party over what he described as the ADC’s alleged preferential treatment for former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to Abdullahi, Amaechi reportedly approached ADC National Chairman, David Mark, expressing displeasure that the party leadership was allegedly “pampering” Obi by allowing him significant influence in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Abdullahi claimed that Obi was permitted to nominate key officials into the party structure, while Amaechi and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, allegedly had no nominees in the ADC leadership.
“I have two deputies under me, and one was nominated by Peter Obi. Amaechi and Atiku can’t point to anyone they nominated into the ADC NWC,” Abdullahi reportedly said.
He further alleged that former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, had sought the position of National Organising Secretary but was denied the role after the party allegedly reserved the position for Obi’s nominee.
“Osita Chidoka wanted to be the National Organising Secretary, but we gave that position to Obi to nominate someone and so many other positions. That was how we lost Osita,” he added.
The allegations come amid growing political realignments and internal negotiations within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
