Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force deployed a harmful substance during a protest, causing him to collapse.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, Sowore claimed that police officers used what he described as a “strange gas” at close range at the protest ground, which entered his lungs and left him struggling to breathe before he eventually collapsed.
Reacting to the development, Sowore declared that repression would not stop what he described as a just cause, insisting that efforts to silence dissent would fail.
According to him, the incident reflects what he called increasingly dangerous tactics being used to suppress opposition and intimidate citizens exercising their constitutional rights.
Sowore further accused the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of attempting to silence and crush opposition voices through fear and force.
Despite the incident, the activist maintained that he and his supporters would not be deterred, vowing to continue their campaign until what he described as the liberation of the country is achieved.
