Rivers State has emerged as one of the states with the highest number of people currently receiving HIV treatment in Nigeria, according to data released by the National Data Repository.
The report, released on May 13, 2026, showed that Rivers State recorded 90,055 patients currently on HIV treatment, placing it fourth nationwide behind Benue State, Akwa Ibom State and Lagos State.
Benue State topped the chart with 195,305 patients on treatment, followed by Akwa Ibom with 158,201 and Lagos with 135,918.
The data further revealed that about 1.70 million people are currently receiving HIV treatment across Nigeria, highlighting ongoing efforts by health authorities and partners to expand access to antiretroviral therapy nationwide.
Other states with high treatment figures include Nasarawa State with 65,996 patients, the Federal Capital Territory with 62,627, and Kaduna State with 58,576 cases.
