The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, on Monday conducted an inspection tour across the state to ensure strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, banning illegal roadblocks, extortion of motorists, and improper dressing by police personnel.
Speaking with journalists at the Rivers–Imo boundary, Adepoju said the exercise was designed to ensure officers deployed on highways are properly attired and maintain professionalism in their dealings with members of the public.
He warned that any officer found without a name tag, improperly dressed, or involved in setting up unauthorized roadblocks that hinder the free flow of traffic would be sanctioned accordingly.
The police commissioner emphasized that the monitoring exercise would be sustained, noting that commanders and departmental heads have been instructed to carry out regular supervision of officers under their authority.
Adepoju further disclosed that checkpoints along the Rivers–Imo boundary have been significantly reduced in line with the directive.
He also appealed to residents to cooperate with officers on patrol, stressing that police presence on the roads is primarily aimed at protecting lives and ensuring public safety.
