The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, rescued a victim and recovered a firearm during a night operation in the Eliozu-Rumuokoro axis of Port Harcourt.
Spokesperson of the Command, ASP, Blessing Agabe said the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Sunday Rufus from Ikwerre Local Government Area, was arrested on September 24, 2026, after police received information about a kidnapping incident at about 10:15pm.
The command said its Convoy Patrol Team stationed at Eliozu sighted the suspected kidnappers and pursued them towards Rumuokoro, by Eligbolu.
Operatives of the Special Area Division subsequently intercepted the fleeing suspects, arrested Rufus and rescued the victim, identified as Emmanuel, who was taken for medical attention.
A firearm, two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and a white tricycle marked PHC 756 ZY were recovered during the operation.
Agabe stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the suspected gang.
Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, commended the officers for their prompt response and vowed to sustain operations against kidnappers and other violent criminals in the state.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to the Police.
