The Bonny Local Government Council has nullified all existing waivers granted to companies operating in the area, exempting them from participating in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
The directive was contained in a public notice signed by Amb. Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo, Chief Press Secretary to the Bonny Local Government Council, on Saturday.
According to the notice, the Council Chairman, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple directed the immediate cancellation of the waivers, stressing that no corporate or commercial interest should supersede the health, safety and environmental well-being of residents.
The Council said all companies operating in Bonny LGA are now required to fully comply with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
It added that companies seeking exemption must henceforth submit formal applications to the Chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Committee, Mr. Edwin Hart, for review and approval.
The Council warned that companies that disregard the directive or participate in unauthorised exemption arrangements would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Companies seeking clarification or applying for a waiver were advised to contact the Environmental Sanitation Committee chairman on 08066264369.
The Council urged companies and other stakeholders to comply with the directive in the interest of a cleaner, safer and healthier Bonny.
