The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has approved the establishment of a Desk Office to address the concerns and serve as a liaison point for persons living with disabilities and other special needs.
The Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene, disclosed this when a five-member delegation of the National Association of Graduate Applicants and Workers With Disabilities paid him a visit to discuss issues affecting their members.
Professor Orluwene assured the delegation that the hospital management would give special consideration to persons living with disabilities in the allocation of staff quarters.
He also said staff members on study leave who require clarification on certain issues could formally apply to management for reconsideration of their peculiar circumstances.
The CMD reiterated the hospital’s commitment to equal opportunities, compassion and inclusive treatment, particularly for persons living with disabilities and special needs.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and National President of the association, Dr Godstime Onyagbulam, highlighted some of the group’s concerns, including staff accommodation and the need for a Desk Office to serve as a liaison between the association and the hospital management.
Professor Orluwene was joined at the meeting by the Director of Administration, Ms Erebi Wadiri, and the Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Kem Daniel-Elebiga.
