Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has sparked widespread reactions after stating that he does not see the level of hunger many Nigerians complain about despite the country’s current economic challenges.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy defended the administration’s performance, saying the government has recorded notable achievements that should not be overlooked.
Onanuga highlighted key initiatives such as the ongoing Coastal Highway project, the student loan programme, and the increase in the national minimum wage as evidence of progress under the Tinubu administration. He noted that the minimum wage had been raised by more than 100 per cent while access to educational financing had been expanded for students across the country.
His comments have since triggered intense discussions on social media, with many Nigerians arguing that rising prices of food, transportation, rent, and other essential goods continue to place significant pressure on households.
While supporters of the administration maintain that economic reforms require time to yield full results, critics insist that many citizens are still grappling with inflation and worsening living conditions.
