The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has explained the reason behind the widespread power outage currently affecting most parts of Port Harcourt.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PHED said the outage was caused by an earth fault triggered by a broken cross arm on the Afam-Port Harcourt 132kV Line 2.
The company disclosed that Afam-PH 132kV Line 1 was subsequently opened to provide a safe working environment for repair works, a development that affected electricity supply to the Port Harcourt Mains, Port Harcourt Town and Rumuosi Transmission Stations.
PHED apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and assured residents that normal power supply would be restored once the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) technical team completes the necessary repairs.
The electricity distribution company also thanked customers for their patience and understanding as efforts continue to restore power to affected areas.
