A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has criticised Peter Obi over his defection to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing him of avoiding internal party challenges.
Melaye said Obi “excused himself from a tough situation,” questioning his ability to lead Nigeria if he could not withstand party crises. According to him, the nation’s challenges are far more complex than those within the ADC.
“He can only operate in an air-conditioned kitchen; hot kitchens are not for him,” Melaye said, in a statement laced with criticism.
The former lawmaker further alleged that Obi has consistently avoided primary elections, claiming that his previous tickets were handed to him without contest. He cited Obi’s time in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party, where he said Obi secured governorship, vice-presidential, and presidential tickets respectively without going through primaries.
Melaye argued that Obi’s latest move to the NDC was driven by a similar motive, alleging that he was seeking another “free ticket.”
He also claimed that the NDC operates as an extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), though he did not provide evidence to support the assertion.
