The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, successfully passed the party’s gubernatorial screening before announcing his withdrawal from the race.
The National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, made the clarification during an appearance on Channels Television on Monday.
Yilwatda dismissed reports claiming that Fubara failed the screening exercise, describing them as false and misleading.
According to him, the Rivers governor completed all necessary processes and was awaiting the party primaries before deciding to step down from the contest.
“He pulled out; he stepped down. It is personal to him. He bought the forms, came for screening, passed the screening, and we were waiting for the primaries before he opted to step down,” Yilwatda said.
The APC chairman also rejected claims that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, influenced Fubara’s decision to withdraw from the race.
According to him, Wike is not a member of the APC and therefore cannot interfere in the party’s internal affairs.
“Wike is not in our party. He is in PDP,” Yilwatda stated.
