A resident of Diobu in Port Harcourt, Kehinde Ajibade, has appealed to the Rivers State Police Command to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of his 16-year-old daughter, Favour Ajibade, at a private hospital in the state.
Ajibade said the deceased, an SS2 student of Orugbum Community Secondary School, died on May 13, 2026, under what he described as suspicious circumstances.
Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the bereaved father alleged that his daughter died while staying under the care of a cleric whom he accused of keeping custody of the teenager against his consent.
According to him, he had visited the school on May 11 to pay Favour’s fees and noticed nothing unusual about her health.
“The vice principal invited her out and we spoke briefly. I paid her school fees and left. There was no indication that she was sick,” he said.
Ajibade explained that two days later, he received a call from a hospital informing him that his daughter was ill and that his presence was urgently needed.
“Before I arrived, my daughter had already passed away,” he said, alleging that despite several requests for the cleric to release the teenager back to her family, the man refused.
The grieving father also claimed that his daughter’s behaviour changed after she began attending the pastor’s church in 2025, adding that repeated pleas to the cleric and his wife to allow her return home were ignored.
