The Nigerian Navy has reacted to reports surrounding the death of a female rating, describing circulating claims linked to the incident as false and misleading.

Unconfirmed reports had alleged that the female rating died after she was subjected to severe punishment by her superior, a female lieutenant commander.

However, in a statement issued by Navy Captain Abi Folorunsho on behalf of the Directorate of Naval Information, the Navy urged the public to refrain from speculation and the spread of unverified information.

The Navy extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, while assuring the public of its commitment to integrity, professionalism, and respect for human dignity.

According to the statement, the established facts surrounding the incident and the underlying cause of death would be communicated to the family, with due regard for the confidential nature of medical matters.

The Nigerian Navy also appealed for privacy and respect for the bereaved family as they mourn their loved one.
