The family of Victoria Paris, a 28-year-old pregnant mother of four, is demanding answers after she reportedly died under controversial circumstances at Standard Maternity Hospital in Borikiri, Port Harcourt.
Paris, who was seven months pregnant, was admitted to the hospital after going into preterm labor, according to her brother-in-law, Chris Adams. Doctors performed a cesarean section but complications arose when she began to suffer significant blood loss.
Adams alleges that the hospital, operated by members of the Jehovah’s Witness faith, declined to administer a blood transfusion due to religious objections. The family attempted to transfer Paris to another hospital for emergency treatment, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident has sparked public concern over the hospital’s policies and the ethical implications of refusing life-saving treatment on religious grounds. The family is calling for an investigation into whether the refusal contributed to Paris’ death.
