ESOCS Devotional 24 April 2026 – I Know That My Redeemer Lives
MEMORY VERSE: “”I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.” Job 19:25 NIV
TEXT: JOB 19:21-27
“Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends,
For the hand of God has struck me!
22 Why do you persecute me as God does,
And are not satisfied with my flesh?
23 “Oh, that my words were written!
Oh, that they were inscribed in a book!
24 That they were engraved on a rock
With an iron pen and lead, forever!
25 For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth;
26 And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
27 Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my [b]heart yearns within me!

These words from Job shine like a beacon amid despair. Job had lost everything: his wealth, his health, and his children. Friends turned into critics, and heaven seemed silent. Yet, out of the ashes of grief and confusion, Job boldly declares, “I know that my Redeemer lives.”
This is not wishful thinking or blind optimism. It is a confident proclamation of faith amid pain. Job believed in a Redeemer, someone who would ultimately vindicate him, defend his cause, and restore what was broken. Even when everything around him screamed defeat, his faith anchored him in the living God.
For us, that Redeemer is Jesus Christ, alive, victorious, and interceding on our behalf. Because He lives, we can face suffering with hope, knowing that He is not only with us in the fire but will have the final say in our story.
This verse reminds us that faith doesn’t deny pain, but it rises above it by holding onto the character and promises of God.
Reflection Questions:
- What personal challenges are testing your faith right now?
- How does knowing that Jesus, your Redeemer, lives change how you face uncertainty or suffering?
- Have you placed your hope in temporary things or is your confidence rooted in the eternal Christ?
- How can you encourage someone else who feels overwhelmed by loss or difficulty with this truth?
Action Step
Write down one situation in your life that feels broken or hopeless. Beside it, write in bold: “I know that my Redeemer lives.” Pray over that situation daily this week, declaring your trust in God’s power to redeem, restore, and resurrect what seems lost.
Prayer
- Lord, even when I don’t understand my situation, I choose to declare that you are alive and at work.
- You are my Redeemer, and I trust that you will restore, vindicate, and lead me through every trial. Strengthen my faith and help me to hold fast to your promises, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
