TEXT: JOHN 20:24-31
MEMORY VERSE: “Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou has believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (John 20:29).
God demands simple faith. Faith that is unalloyed, plain, and true. Faith that does not rely on logic, imagination, or rationalization; the simple faith of a child. Thomas lacked these things. People who possess this attitude of Thomas cannot please God. He demands that we should believe and trust Him easily, and without wavering. The Bible says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6 NKJV).
As we walk with the Lord, we should learn to believe everything He said in His word, and not doubt. The secret of having a fruitful relationship with Him is believing Him in His word. When we believe His word and engrave it in our heart, we would practice it and live by it. If we doubt, we would not respect it. It would mean nothing to us, and so we sin against Him. Jesus had told the disciples that he would rise again, and He did. Others believed; but Thomas doubted it (John 20:25). Our Lord was not happy about his unbelief.
Christians do not wait until they see before they believe the word of God: “We live by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7 NIV). We need to develop in us the attitude of having confidence in God with our eyes of faith. It would make things come alive for us easily.
We should train ourselves to believe in God and His word absolutely. In our relationship with Him, let us apply the attitude of complete surrender to Him, His word, and His will. That is what would make us complete in Him. We are often separated from Him by doubt; such things should not be found in our heart. He has said, “… blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” This should give us reason to believe and trust in Him always.
- Pay attention to God’s word and build your faith on it.
- Father, grant me the grace to believe in your word always.
