MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “So then is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.”(Rom.9:16)
READ: ECCL.9:11
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
To prevail means to overcome or overpower an opponent. Not many people who prevail in warfare are the most powerful and sometimes the most resilient. When Jacob wrestled with the angel of his destiny, we were told that he held on until day break, saying, “I will never let you go unless you bless me”. At the break of the day the angel had to dislocate his hip joint for him to let go but not without the blessing. In our meditation scripture for today, we discover that there is another lane that leads to great victory and testimonies; it is called the mercy lane. Both scriptures and life experiences have shown that life race is not always won by the swift, neither victory in battle for the strong (Ecc.9:11).
This is why we need the voice of mercy to speak in our lives and circumstances. Mercy prevails where strength, merits and all of human endowment are deficient. Mercy prevails always because the voice of mercy cancels judgment and wipes away guilt. In Christ Jesus we have received abundant mercy and grace that is why failure and defeat is not our portion. So many bible and historical figures that we celebrate today owe their lifting to the voice of mercy. Solomon was a son from adulterous foundation yet he became the most famous king of Israel apart from his father David. In my own town, there were people that were better placed, had better background and better education yet mercy chose me. When everything fails appeal to God’s mercy, it never fails.
TURNING POINT: When everything fails appeal to God’s mercy, it never fails.
PRAYER POINT: Have mercy on me O Lord.
