ESOCS Devotional 15 July 2026 – Even in Exile God Doesn’t Forget
MEMORY VERSE: “I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt. Again, you will take up your timbrels and go out to dance with the joyful.”– Jeremiah 31:4 (NIV)
TEXT: 2 KINGS 25:25-END
But it happened in the seventh month that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck and killed Gedaliah, the Jews, as well as the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah. 26 And all the people, small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose and went to Egypt; for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.
27 Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. 28 He spoke kindly to him, and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon. 29 So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life. 30 And as for his provisions, there was a regular ration given him by the king, a portion for each day, all the days of his life.

Life has a way of breaking us down through loss, disappointment, failure, or seasons of silence and waiting. The people of Israel, to whom Jeremiah was speaking, had experienced deep suffering due to exile and judgment. But in the midst of this, God delivers a message of hope and restoration: “Again you will rejoice.”
This promise isn’t merely about external rebuilding; it speaks of a deeper work of healing, renewal, and revival of joy. God assures His people that the sorrow of the night will not last forever. He will rebuild what was broken and restore the joy that was lost. The dance of celebration will return, not because of circumstances, but because of the faithful love of God.
Sometimes we feel like we’ll never laugh again or find joy in life. But God is the restorer of joy. He specializes in bringing life from ashes, beauty from pain, and praise from heaviness. If you’re in a season of grief, know this: God is not finished with your story. Hold on to His word, again, you will rejoice.
Reflections
- Am I giving Jesus my best or my leftovers?
- What is He asking me to surrender in worship?
- Does my worship reflect the worth of Jesus in my life?
Action Step
Give sacrificially, your time, talents, or treasure, as an act of worship. Worship in private, not just in public, cultivating a heart of devotion. Ignore critics, and focus on pleasing Jesus alone.
Prayer
- Lord, help me to worship you with all I am.
- Let my devotion be genuine, sacrificial, and pleasing to you. Amen.
