The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Richard Emmanuel, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Caroline Sunday, following a dispute over allegations of infidelity.
The incident occurred at Abraham Street in the Eneka community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to residents, the suspect confronted the deceased on Saturday, accusing her of being unfaithful to him. The accusation was reportedly denied by the victim, leading to a heated argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
During the altercation, Emmanuel allegedly assaulted Caroline, causing her to fall and hit her head against a sharp edge of a wall. She reportedly sustained severe injuries from the impact.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect is in police custody while investigations continue.
“I can confirm that the suspect is in police custody. Investigation has commenced with a view to ensuring justice in the matter,” the police spokesperson said.
The suspect is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Port Harcourt as detectives continue their investigation into the incident.
