The State House has confirmed that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, resigned from their positions, dismissing reports that they were sacked.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Edun formally tendered his resignation citing health concerns before the announcement of his replacement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday.
Edun, who turned 70 on Monday, reportedly submitted his resignation letter on his birthday after battling recent ill health. In his letter, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he wrote, adding that under the President’s leadership, Nigeria had become “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected.”
He stated that before his exit was officially announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where he held a closed-door meeting lasting about an hour before departing to focus on his private business interests.
Similarly, Dangiwa also resigned his position and thanked the President for the opportunity to serve on the Federal Executive Council.
