Spokesperson of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations, Solomon Lenu has urged people of the state and Nigerians not to judge the Ikwerres by Governor, Nyesom Wike’s standard.
Lenu, in a statement Today, said the Ikwerres are one of the best people in Nigeria.
He said Wike is not a true reflection of the Ikwerres, and should not be used as a yardstick to measure the character of the Ikwerre people.
According to him, in the midst of Angels, one can possibly find a demon, and that in every twelve there must be a Judas.
His statement reads,
Don’t Judge Ikwerre People By Wike’s Standard
I was born and raised in the city of Portharcourt, travelled around a little bit and returned back to base so I can tell it better.
The Ikwerre people are one of the best people in Nigeria as far as I can tell. They are very receptive and accommodating. And some of the best people I’ve encountered in my life are Ikwerre people. And till date Ikwerre nation is the life-wire to most of us here talking.
But just like in the midst of angels one can possibly find a demon, and also amongst every twelve there may be a Judas. Wike came through differently. He is not a true reflection of the usual Ikwerre man and should not be a standard or yardstick to measure the character of the Ikwerre nation.
However it is sad, that when global leadership is evolving towards idealistic and scientific means, Gov Nyesom Wike is dragging Rivers people back to the primitive stone age of vindictive politics where leadership was expressed through the contestation of fist fight and muscle rather than through ideas.
Wike must never be used as a measure or assessment of the Ikwerre people.
