A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is standing trial over alleged national security violations linked to wiretapping.
Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik admitted the former governor to bail in the sum of N100 million with one surety in the same amount.
The court directed that the surety must be a Grade Level 17 federal civil servant residing in either Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja, and must present the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property.
Justice Abdulmalik further ordered the surety to provide evidence of at least three months’ salary payments, a valid tax clearance certificate, affidavit of means, recent passport photograph, and a verification letter from the individual’s department.
As part of the bail terms, El-Rufai was instructed to deposit all valid international passports with the court and obtain approval before embarking on any foreign trip.
The court also ordered him to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month until the matter is concluded.
The judge warned that any breach of the bail conditions would result in automatic revocation of the bail and subsequently ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.
