Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has appealed to protesting youths in Port Harcourt to remain calm, assuring them that officers responsible for the alleged killing of a 22-year-old man will be brought to justice.
Adepoju made the appeal on Monday while addressing the protesters at Agip Junction in Port Harcourt.
The youths had blocked the road and set tyres ablaze, disrupting vehicular movement and other activities in the area.
The Police Commissioner assured the protesters that justice would be served in the matter, adding that the police would ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
He, however, warned that the protest could be hijacked by hoodlums and urged the youths to discontinue the demonstration.
Adepoju also invited those directly affected by the incident to a meeting to discuss the matter and find a peaceful resolution.
The CP further appealed to the protesters to end the demonstration, noting that prolonged protests could portray Rivers State as unsafe and negatively affect the image of the state.
He urged the youths to allow the police to conduct their investigation, assuring them that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome.
