The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primary elections.
The decision was announced in a press statement issued on Wednesday, after the party’s 188th NWC meeting held in Abuja.
According to the statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the committee resolved to exempt President Tinubu from appearing before the screening panel and officially deemed him duly screened in line with the party’s constitution.
The APC explained that the waiver was granted pursuant to Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the party’s constitution, which empowers the NWC to organise and supervise primaries as well as grant waivers in special circumstances.
The ruling party stated that the President had already received overwhelming endorsements and votes of confidence from key stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), members of the National Assembly, and other party organs, during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025.
The committee further noted that Tinubu, as the incumbent President and leader of the party, had previously undergone screening and clearance ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, making another physical appearance before a screening committee unnecessary.
“The President has received overwhelming endorsement and a vote of confidence from critical stakeholders of the Party,” the statement noted.
The APC stated that the decision was made in the best interest of the party, as preparations continue for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
